Mysterious SMP XDiscord

How to Apply

Applying takes a few minutes and happens entirely inside Discord. Here is every step, and what to do when one of them goes wrong.

Mysterious SMP X is whitelisted, so you apply once and play from then on. The
whole thing runs through the bot in Discord — there is no forum post, no
Google Form, and nothing to install.

Before you start

Turn on direct messages from server members. The bot sends the outcome of
your application by DM, and if it cannot reach you the decision sits unread.
In Discord: User Settings → Content & Social → Allow direct messages from
server members
, or right-click the server and check its privacy settings.

Know your exact account name. Java players need the username on the account
they actually play. Bedrock and console players need their Xbox gamertag,
spelled exactly as Xbox shows it — including spaces and capitals.

Read the rules. You accept them as part of applying, and they are what staff
enforce afterwards. Griefing and raiding being allowed surprises people, so it
is worth knowing that going in.

The five steps

1. Press Apply

Find the application panel in Discord and press Apply. The rules appear
first. Read them, then press I Agree — pressing I Disagree simply closes
the application and nothing is submitted.

2. Enter your account name

A short form asks for your Minecraft username or Xbox gamertag. If the bot
cannot work out your edition automatically it also asks whether you play
Java or Bedrock.

Type the name exactly. This is the single most common thing people get wrong,
and a typo here means the verification step in a moment will never complete.

3. Verify the account is yours

The bot shows you the server address and asks you to connect once within 10
minutes
.

You will be disconnected immediately. That is not a failure and it is not a
rejection — that first connection exists only to prove you control the account
you named. Java players add the server under Multiplayer → Add Server;
Bedrock players add an external server using the address and the port the bot
shows.

4. Fill in the form

Once the connection is seen, come back to Discord. A DM with a button will be
waiting. Two written questions:

  • Why do you want to join Mysterious SMP X?
  • What would you bring to the server?

Both want at least a couple of sentences. This is the part staff actually read,
so it is worth more than one line.

5. Wait for the decision

Staff review the application and send the outcome by direct message. If you are
accepted you are whitelisted straight away and can join with the account you
verified.

When something goes wrong

I typed the wrong username

Press Apply again on the panel. Because you have an application in flight,
it shows a private Cancel Pending Verification option instead of starting a
new one. Cancel, then apply again with the right name. /minecraft cancel does
the same thing.

I joined but nothing happened

Check three things, in this order:

  1. The name matches. Verification watches for the exact account you entered.
  2. You were inside the 10 minutes. If it expired, cancel and apply again.
  3. You connected to the right address. Bedrock needs both the address and
the port; entering only the address connects you nowhere.

I never got a DM

Your direct messages are almost certainly closed. Open them using the setting
above, then ask staff to re-send — the decision is not lost, it just could not
be delivered.

I got disconnected and thought I was banned

You were not. Step 3 turns everyone away on purpose. If you are still turned
away after being accepted, that is something else — the server may be in
maintenance, which closes it to everyone except operators.
